North Wales Cave Rescue is a UK Registered Charity (#1052986) which aims for the preservation and protection of good health and life of persons and animals injured or stranded either above or below ground by carrying out rescue operations and to assist the Police in these and similar activities.
There has been a cave rescue team in North Wales since the 1960s which was originally run by an assortment of the local caving clubs. In the 1970s this arrangement was consolidated within the North Wales Caving Club which managed the team through the 1980s. By the early 1990s it was clear that this wasn’t sufficient, and it became apparent that a new standalone organisation was required. Following a meeting of all the interested parties and clubs it was agreed to form such an organisation, and the North Wales Cave Rescue Organisation was formed on the 5th July 1995. The team achieved chairtable status in February 1996 when it became a fully registered UK charity. Since then the team has seen an explosion of activity within the area, primarily driven by the increasing numbers of people exploring disused mines and social media.
The team is an associate member of Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW) and a full member of the British Cave Rescue Council and North Wales Mountain Rescue Assocication (NWMRA).
We do not require a great deal of commitment from members but do require attendance at our regular training events which alternate between the east and west of the region. We also ask all operational members to attend full day practices which occur twice a year. Those who want more training and responsibility can be encouraged and provided for. If you are interested in joining then contact the membership secretary [membership@northwalescro.org.uk].
